Traditional Longbows for Kids

Recently, I’ve had many customers ask me about traditional longbows for their kids.  Longbows are simple and real easy to shoot, provided they are the proper draw weight.   It’s not fun for a child to try to pull and shoot a longbow if it’s too hard.   They won’t be very accurate and their confidence will suffer.

My grand daughter just out grew her kids Bear fiberglass bow.  Her Bear bow belonged to her mom (my daughter).   It’s close to 45 years old and still works great, however my grand daughter was ready for a step up.

I had a new English style longbow in my inventory and let her try it.   Boy, she just loved it.   It’s her favorite bow to shoot and she’s very accurate with it.   It’s just the right draw weight.  It’s 35# @28″ and 64″ long.

As she grows, this bow will grow with her.   She isn’t drawing it back fully yet, so I made her shorter arrows for her draw.

Here’s the best part…as she gets stronger and taller, she can still use the same bow, but will only need longer arrows.

So, for the investment of $150, these lighter English longbows are perfect for young archers.    Watch this video of my grand daughter shooting the English longbow and see how accurate and comfortable she is.

I am so proud of her.

New Hickory Bamboo Backed Medicine Longbow with Arrows

Today, I’d like to debut my new Medicine Bow.

It’s a Bamboo backed Hickory Longbow that comes with three custom made arrows.  It’s a beauty which I am very proud of.

This longbow is 60″ long with a 35 lb. @ 27″ draw and right handed. I stained the bow an Osage color and hand painted the design.  For decoration, I also added a glass primitive arrow head and brown rabbit fur around the leather grip.

Included in this set are three 27″ long, 5/16″ diameter POC arrows.  The feathers are both glued and tied down.

This all can be yours for only $225 plus shipping.

Send me an email or give me a call 313-318-4185 to place an order.

Meeting Chuck Buck, from Buck Knives

Chuck and Sarah Buck

Myself, Sarah and Chuck Buck in Dundee, Michigan

This photo was taken around 2001 or so, at Cabela’s in Dundee, Michigan.  Buck knives had a special table setup with Chuck Buck and his grand daughter Sarah as special guests.

Years ago, I used to be a Buck knife dealer and would place my orders with Sarah, at Buck knives.  When they came to Michigan, I had to make the drive to Dundee to meet them in person.   I had Chuck autograph some of my special knives for myself and my daughter.  It was real nice to meet them.

I’m still a life member of the Buck collector knife club.  I signed up my grandson also, so he will always get the yearly catalogs and first looks at all of the new knives.   My grandson was about 2 years old when we were at Cabala’s and now he’s starting high school this year.

Time sure goes by fast.

My workshop and finished arrows

workshop pic 2

I just finished a couple of dozen arrows for one of my customers and he stopped by my workshop to pick them up.   While he was there, he snapped a picture of me, proudly displaying my handiwork.  I really enjoy working in my little shop.  It’s always nice to chat with my customers and explain how I make my archery equipment.

Debut Bamboo Shaft Arrows

One dozen handmade bamboo arrows

One dozen handmade bamboo arrowsI am proud to show off my new handmade bamboo arrows. They are real nice and fly great. I’ve received a lot of compliments on how nice they fly. These have domestic turkey feathers and 125 grain field points. The spine is 60-65 pounds. These came out to be 30 1/2″ long from the nock groove to the back of the head of the field point.

They are becoming popular and I’m working on filling orders for a dozen each. Give me call @ 313-318-4185 for more info. They are priced at $9 each, plus shipping.

Lincoln Bowmen Public Shoot May 2013

My family and I had a great time at Lincoln Bowmen for their public shoot in May 2013.   They invited me back to set up my goodies for sale.  We had a beautiful day.  I debuted my custom bamboo arrows.  Boy, they went over great.   I sold a bunch and even sold some bamboo shafts and feathers for those who like to make their own arrows.   So, now I’m making up more bamboo shaft arrows for sale.  The archers who have tried them, comment on nice they fly.

One of the best parts of my day is shooting with my granddaughter. She’s seven and a real good shooter. She has great form! She’s very serious and competitive. It feels good to pass this sport that has been a part of my life for so many years… down to my family.

2012 Traditional Jamboree at Royal Oak Archers, Oakland Michigan

Last year was my first year going to traditional shoots and selling my handmade longbows and arrows.  I took my family out to Royal Oak Archers, in Oakland Michigan and we had a real nice time.

I sold a few bows and met some real cool guys.   The club is top rate and sits on some beautiful land in Oakland County.  The club members were great.  They made us feel like part of their family, especially since it was our first time there.   We went back many more times over the summer for other shoots and had a real nice experience each time.

This is a picture of me at the 2012 Traditional Jamboree Shoot.
