Handmade Arrows

My Handmade Arrows for Costumes

Recently, I had a request for arrows to be used as part of two cosplay costumes.   The costumes were for the Lord of the Rings characters, Legolas and Tauriel.

Crystina, owner of Arda Wigs purchased a dozen arrows to be part of their costumes for the Atlanta Dragon Con Convention that was held on Labor Day weekend.

Dragon Con Atlanta

I was very surprised and happy to get this request, since most of my customers are either hunters or target shooters. I was very proud to have my arrows as part of a costume for such a big event.

Traditional archery is a large part of the Lord of the Rings movies. Legolas is a master bowman of the Woodland Realm and appears in all of the movies. Tauriel is captain of the Elvian Guard and is also a proficient archer and markswoman.

These movies demonstrate, within a fantasy world, a fine example of traditional archery.

Robin Hood Arrow

I had a fine day out at Tomahawk Archers, last Sunday.

Toward the end of the day, my last customer gave all of us a quite unexpected and spectacular show of skill.  Bruce Gray, of Saline Michigan, was interested in my fir tapered shaft arrows.   We talked about their specs and I encouraged him to try shooting a few.

Bruce shot a few fir arrows and I suggested he try out my bamboo arrows.   After Bruce shot his 3rd bamboo arrow, we heard a loud crack noise.  I wasn’t sure what happened…I thought he broke one of the knocks.

Bruce said, “Well, I think I have to buy these.”

We all looked up and couldn’t believe our eyes…he shot a Robin Hood!

Wow, everybody in the club had to come over and check out the Robin Hood arrows.  I think it’s pretty rare to Robin Hood wood arrows.   All the guys were impressed and came over to talk to Bruce and see the arrows.

It was the coolest thing and made my day to see it…first hand.  All, I could say was “Wow!”

It was a fine way to end the day.

My workshop and finished arrows

workshop pic 2

I just finished a couple of dozen arrows for one of my customers and he stopped by my workshop to pick them up.   While he was there, he snapped a picture of me, proudly displaying my handiwork.  I really enjoy working in my little shop.  It’s always nice to chat with my customers and explain how I make my archery equipment.
